Ubiquitous computing and complexity are creating a significant shift from product to experience and changing user experience design into the shaping of a process. As information is a core layer, information architecture is affected as well and moves on to design ubiquitous ecologies, complex information spaces bridging multiple media and environments. A manifesto of this new pervasive information architecture is proposed. Finally, the chapter introduces the five heuristics to evaluate and design pervasive information architectures, which are detailed in the following chapters.
