Chapter 3: Heuristics for a Pervasive Information Architecture
This chapter introduces a holistic vision of user experience and information architecture. First, the idea of process as a sequence of actions, events, or behaviors unfolding in space and time and characterized by a certain continuity is introduced. Ubiquitous computing and complexity are creating a significant shift from product to experience and changing user experience design into the shaping of this process. As information is a core layer, information architecture is affected as well and moves on to design ubiquitous ecologies, complex information spaces bridging multiple media and environments. A manifesto of this new pervasive information architecture is proposed. Finally, the chapter introduces the five heuristics to evaluate and design pervasive information architectures, which are detailed in the following chapters.
